Virtually everyone knows that where you stay while on vacation is pretty important. But even with this, more often than not, we still underestimate just how vital this detail is. Sometimes, we get away with this. But other times, it can put a real downer on things, which raises the big question; just how do I pick the perfect accommodations while on a trip?

Needless to say, this is a very tough one to answer. This is because any lodging you pick MUST strike the perfect balance between comfort, affordability, proximity to attractions/transportation, and safety, and those are only the major pointers!

Over time, I’ve come up with a system for picking travel accommodations that have yielded pretty great results. Keep reading to learn more!

The Complete Guide to Picking the Perfect Accommodations Anywhere in the World with Ease

You’re headed somewhere you’ve probably never been before. I’ve discovered that picking the right lodgings helps me feel more at ease. With that, I’ll be more open to the new and unique experiences awaiting me on my trip.

So, to make the right choice, always:

Consider Your Travel Needs

All vacations aren’t cut from the same cloth, meaning you have to consider your accommodation arrangements in light of your holiday plans. The key elements that define your travel needs include the type of traveler you are (whether you’re moving alone or with family), the goal of the trip, the duration of the trip, and, of course, your unique preferences. By using these as a guide, you’ll start to have a clear picture of what type of lodging will work for you and what won’t.

Understand the Different Accommodation Types

Resorts are different from hotels just as bread and breakfasts aren’t the same as hostels. There are quite a few accommodation types out there and each of these has its distinct merits and demerits. Take your time to explore these options to learn which will best suit your trip.

Consider Accommodation Location and Costs

This is where your decision-making can get a little tricky. For example, if you’re going sightseeing on a budget, you may be tempted to opt for more affordable hotels situated farther away from major attractions. However, this is likely to increase your cost of transportation and might be an inconvenience. This means that you may be better served getting a slightly more expensive lodging that’s within walking distance of the sights you want to see.

Ensure Safety

The safety of the neighborhood you’ll be staying in is another key thing. You can read reviews to ensure that you’re at minimal risk in these locations. In addition to picking lodgings in established safe zones, scout the area, where possible, and make sure that wherever you choose has lockers or safes to keep your valuables secure.

The Best Tips for Getting Budget-Friendly Accommodation

Even if you’re not particularly worried about spending too much on accommodation, there’s no need to leave money on the table. Some things I do to save a little here include:

#1 - Travel in Off-Peak Season

The difference in price between off-peak and peak-season accommodation costs can be shocking. So, when I can, I consider putting my vacation in the off-peak season, meaning I’ll get to save a ton on accommodation expenses if nothing else.

#2 - Leverage Bundle Services

More and more platforms these days are offering amazing flight and accommodation bundle packages, ensuring I get more value for my money. I just make sure to time my trip to take advantage of these deals.

#3 - Cash in Last-Minute Packages

This is cutting it a little close, and I try not to do it too often. However, when it clicks, you can save big bucks! All you have to do is wait for the slashed prices that come with last-minute bookings. Again, think things through before doing this!
