Hot Air Ballooning Over the Colorado Aspens

Colorado hot air balloon autumn

There's no better way to see fall color at scale than from a few thousand feet up, drifting silently over a valley that's gone entirely gold.

Colorado's ballooning season runs through fall specifically because the mornings are calm and the color is at its peak — most flights launch just after sunrise, when the wind is lightest and the light is best. Flights typically run 60–90 minutes in the air, followed by a traditional champagne toast on landing, a tradition that goes back to hot air ballooning's earliest days.

Mornings at altitude run cold even on a warm-looking day — a real jacket is essential gear here, not an optional extra.
