Prague at Christmas: A Markets Walking Tour Worth Booking

A decorated Christmas tree in Prague's Old Town Square

Prague's Christmas markets are some of the most atmospheric in Europe, and a guided walking tour is the easiest way to actually understand what you're looking at — and drinking — rather than just wandering between stalls.

This small-group or private tour starts at Jungmann Square and winds through the city's market squares to finish at the famous Old Town Square market, with an English-speaking local guide pointing out the nativity scene exhibition and the history behind the season's traditions along the way. Mulled wine, hot mead, and traditional Czech Christmas snacks are included, and the roughly two-and-a-half-hour route covers public transportation between stops so it doesn't turn into an all-day walk.

Groups are capped at 10 travelers, which keeps it from feeling like a tour bus crowd, and it's a genuinely kid-friendly outing if the trip includes family.

What to Wear

Prague's market squares are cobblestone and the tour is almost entirely outdoors, so real waterproof boots matter more than they might for a typical city walk — layer up with a warm piece from our women's outerwear collection or our men's outerwear collection underneath.

Book on a weekday evening if possible — Old Town Square gets considerably more crowded on weekends once local visitors join the tourist traffic.
