As someone who throws herself into their work, vacations are a rare opportunity to break away from all that bustling and find my center. Thankfully, there are lots of places, home and abroad, where you can lose yourself in new cultures, traditions, and cuisines. The downside is that most of these popular hotspots attract a lot of other people, too. So, if you’re not a big fan of justling with large crowds, you may feel your options are limited; I know I did.
But there’s good news!
There are a few pockets of space scattered across the globe where you can still have a personalized and truly enjoyable vacation experience. I’ve highlighted my top picks below.
4 Awesome Least Known Destinations for a Memorable Vacation in 2024
These locations receive among the fewest number of tourists in the world. However, this isn’t because they don’t have as much to offer. On the contrary, you’ll be spoilt for choice with the sheer number of activities and sights you can explore in these places!
Without further ado, the least-known vacation locations in the world right now are:
One: The Republic of Suriname
Only a few people know Suriname is a country, and fewer still can point to it on a map. As the smallest country in South America, this nation has many hidden jewels. While it has several charms, two things drew me to Suriname.
The first is its beautiful and well-preserved forests, one of the few remaining strong patches of greenery in the world. The second great thing about this country is the sheer diversity present in the region. You’ll find Dutch, Chinese, African, Indian, and even Indonesian heritages properly represented here!
Two: Bermuda
Perhaps due to its proximity to the urban myth, the Bermuda Triangle, quite a lot of people know that this region exists, and they’ve done so for quite a while now. Interestingly, even with the free publicity the British overseas territory gets, less than 300, 000 visitors come around each year.
This island destination has lots to offer you, though. From striking art galleries to comprehensive museums, elegant hiking trails, to tons of different water sports, every inch of the 20 miles of this region promises you endless adventures!
Three: The Cook Islands
To the best of my knowledge, there are two reasons why the limitless flock of tourists around the globe don’t travel here. The first is that the 15 isles that make up the Cook Islands are scattered across thousands and thousands of square miles of ocean. Secondly, you usually have to put in a lot of work to reach these places. The most common routes of entry include Los Angeles, Fiji, and Auckland.
But once you make it in, you’ll be glad you put in the effort. From a thriving food scene to bustling bars and cafes and a wide array of underwater adventures, you’ll never want to leave this magical place!
Four: Tuvalu
Saving the best for last, I give you Tuvalu, an island nation that sees less than 4, 000 tourists yearly! The entire population of the country falls well under 15,000 so you can be sure you’ll get more me-time than you’ll know what to do with here!
There are a lot of attractive elements to this vacation destination, starting with its eco-lodge and remarkably rich culture. For water sports lovers, there’s more than enough to do here, too. You could also shop for Tuvalu stamps, go to church, and do tons of other great things!
Honorable Mentions
- Mali;
- Bhutan;
- Antigua and Barbuda.
And that’s all for now!
If you like your peace and quiet, there are few better places you could vacation right now.
Now that you know these destinations, all you have to do is pick the best travel clothes and set sail for premium rest and relaxation!
